Rack or tower
Rack servers (Dell R-series, HPE DL-series) mount in a standard server rack and suit data center or server room environments. Tower servers (Dell T-series, HPE ML-series) are freestanding and don't require rack infrastructure, making them a fit for smaller offices or branch locations. Before you configure: which platform?
Building to order works best when the chassis is already the right one, because the decisions that cannot be changed later are made at build. Drive capacity is the clearest example: an 8-bay server cannot be populated to 16 by adding caddies, since the backplane is different hardware.
