What Meraki Is
Meraki is Cisco's cloud-managed product line: switches, access points and security appliances that are configured and monitored entirely from the Meraki dashboard rather than a local console or on-site controller. The appeal is centralized management across many sites with no local IT presence required. The trade-off is licensing — covered in full below — which is not optional on this platform the way it is on traditional Catalyst gear.

How Meraki Licensing Works
This is the single most common source of confusion when buying Meraki on the secondary market — and the one thing worth understanding before you specify a model. Cisco is explicit: "Meraki hardware does not keep operating without an active license in your organization." Buying the hardware is not the same as holding the license, and TekBoost does not represent that any license, subscription or support entitlement transfers with a quoted unit.
Licenses Attach to the Organization, Not the Serial Number
Cisco: "Cisco Meraki licensing is applied on an organization-wide basis. This means that a license isn't purchased for a specific serial number or device." A license is not tied to the hardware you're buying — it's tied to the dashboard organization you claim the hardware into.
Two Licensing Modes — They Do Not Mix

Modes cannot be mixed: "Licenses can only be moved between organizations that use the same licensing mode. Licenses cannot be moved between a Co-termination and a PDL organization." Know which mode your organization runs before assuming a license can move.
What happens at expiration
Cisco documents a grace period, then shutdown: on expiry "the organization will enter a 30-day grace period, during which the organization must be brought back into compliance, otherwise it will be shut down," after which "the network has been disabled for non-payment." An unlicensed Meraki device is not a device with reduced features — it stops working.
Hardware Ownership vs. License Ownership
What TekBoost supplies — and does not

Meraki licenses and subscriptions are not included and are not sold by TekBoost, and must be obtained separately from Cisco or an authorized Meraki partner — Cisco publishes a partner locator. We do not represent that a license, subscription or support contract transfers with a quoted unit, we do not provide Cisco or Meraki manufacturer support, and we make no claim about whether a particular device can be claimed into your dashboard. Cisco's published licensing guidance does not address devices bought on the secondary market, so we do not paraphrase it as though it does.
