The Catalyst 9500 sits at aggregation and core, where the traffic from every access switch converges. Here the questions are about high-speed uplinks, port density and redundancy rather than PoE.

What to tell us

  • Model or part number — the exact SKU if you have it, or the throughput and port profile you need.
  • Port speeds and count — 10G, 25G, 40G or 100G, and how many.
  • Optics — SFP+, QSFP or QSFP28, and whether transceivers or DAC cables are needed.
  • Redundancy — whether you need dual power supplies, and any stacking or high-availability requirement.
  • Quantity — and whether it is a one-off or a repeat requirement.
  • Compatibility — what this has to work alongside.
  • Licensing — tell us which software tier your design needs. We can report the software version present on a quoted unit, but TekBoost supplies the hardware only: Cisco software licences and subscriptions are not included and are not sold by TekBoost, and must be obtained separately from Cisco or an authorised Cisco partner where they are required.

Put the technical detail in the Quote Details field and the volume in Estimated Quantity.

Three things to settle before quoting a 9500

It has no PoE. Cisco’s Catalyst 9500 data sheet does not list PoE on any model. If access points or phones need powering, that belongs on a 9300 or 9200 — see the 9200 vs 9300 vs 9500 comparison.

Port configuration is fixed, so pick it correctly first. Cisco lists C9500-16X at 16x 1/10G, C9500-24Y4C at 24x 1/10/25G plus 4x 40/100G, C9500-48Y4C at 48 ports plus 4x 40/100G, C9500-32C at 32x 100G and C9500-32QC at 32x 40G or 16x 100G. The 9500X models go further, to 40/100/200/400G. Uplinks come with the model rather than as a module.

Airflow direction has to match the rack. Cisco lists six field-replaceable variable-speed fan units on the 9500X in two types, front to back and back to front; the 9500 fans are listed as front-to-back. Getting this wrong pushes hot air the wrong way down a contained aisle, so tell us which direction you need.

Redundancy is built in: Cisco lists dual 1+1 redundant power supplies (AC or DC), field-replaceable redundant fan trays, and StackWise Virtual, which pairs two chassis so they behave as one logical device rather than adding ports the way a stack does.
