Processor & memory
The second processor is what unlocks the second bank of eight DIMM slots, so a single-processor Z840 cannot reach the platform’s full memory capacity no matter which DIMMs are fitted. Decide your memory target first, then the processor count. Confirm DIMM type, rank and population rules before buying memory.
Graphics & expansion
Processor population also affects which PCIe slots are usable. Check card length and width, the free slot count, power-connector type and the power supply fitted — the 850 W and 1125 W units differ in what they will support. Confirm application certification for the specific graphics card.
Condition & delivery
Compare the complete configured price, the warranty term and the lead time rather than the chassis price alone. Include your quantity, destination, preferred condition and any operating-system requirement when you request a quote.

How does the Z840 compare with the HP Z8 G4?
Both are dual-socket Z-series towers. The Z840 uses the Intel C612 chipset with the Xeon E5-2600 family and eight memory channels; the Z8 G4 is the later platform and is available as a refurbished configure-to-order system. If your requirement is tied to the Z840 specifically — an older PCIe card, an operating system or an application certification — the Z840 is the right platform; otherwise the Z8 G4 is usually the better-supported choice.
